The lion sleeps tonight… or not?

When we have guests we always hope that we will see animals around the lodge or that we will hear the lions roar at night. In September we had a full camp with 8 guests when we heard the lions roar at night. At first they were a little further away but after everyone had gone to bed they came closer. The guests go a real concert.
The next morning two of our guests went on a bushwalk. They went with an open
game vehicle to the place where they were going to walk and just after leaving they saw 14 lions! It were two big males with some females and half grown cubs. They stayed with the lions for over an hour and came back with great pictures. One of the big males, known as Manzinio, is 14 years old already and recently got wounded in a fight on his mouth. It is only a matter of time until the old males are chased away and some younger males take over the pride.
During their walk the guests also saw giraffes and zebras and a crocodile who was sunbathing at the edge of the water. They had a great experience. On the game drive that they made that afternoon they also saw a lot of animals. That night we heard a lion again but this time it was only one and he was far away. Closer by us we heard the spooky giggling of hyenas…
Regards from the bush
