Swimming

It is the end of March and that means that the swimming season here in South Africa is over. It is still warm enough and our European guests still go for a swim, but for the South Africans the swimming season has come to an end. At school the season is closed each year with a froggy-gala for the little ones. All pre-school children and their parents are invited for a morning of water fun in the school swimming pool. This event takes place on the last Friday in February and after that there is no more swimming at school till next summer.
Here at the lodge we give it a try once or twice in March but Corné and I have adapted well to our new country
and we find the water “to cold”. I know, the water is still about 28 degrees Celsius, but after a warm summer of swimming in water of 30 degrees it feels cold. The kids have no objections to the cooler water and if they get someone to joint hem, they still happily swim. Earlier this month our friend Ineke came for a swim every now and again on a hot day and now Corné’s parents are visiting. The past two days is has been very warm with 35 degrees, so at the end of the afternoon they came here for a swim. Niels and Dennis were the first to get into the water and enjoyed themselves very much. The first day Corné went very bravely with them but yesterday he let grandma and grandpa swim with the kids. They jumped in the water and showed them all their tricks. We let them enjoy it; soon it will be to cold to swim at all. Only at the end of September the water will get warm enough again and on the first of October the new swimming season at school will start. By that time Dennis will probably go to school two days a week so the brothers can go to the swimming lessons together.
Regards from the bush
