Karma in the Bush

Do you believe in Karma? Or that, what we do, think and say in our daily life, comes back to us in a certain way? I m quite down to earth and always have been sceptical about “dreamy” stuff. But in the last few years here in the South African bush I have started to believe in Karma.
Karma and its results are seen as a natural principle, a law of “action and reaction". There is no God working here to punish or reward. A good deed naturally has pleasant effects for the one doing them and bad deeds naturally have unpleasant consequences.
So when you do good things you will get good things in return and if you can enjoy
the small things in life the bigger things will automatically come on your path as well.
Here at the lodge we regularly see something like Karma at work. Guests that enjoy the small things often see many of the bigger animals, while the people that only are interested in the “Big Five” have to be content with less. Off course we wish all our guests have a wonderful safari with lots of animals, but if I’m honest I think that the last kind of people miss a lot. It is fantastic to see lions, rhinos, buffalos and elephants, and it is a great experience to see the shy leopard, but there are so many other beautiful animals. I understand the attraction these animals, and especially the predators, have on people and it is a fantastic experience to see them up close. But if a daytrip to the Krugerpark is not satisfying if you haven’t seen lions, you have missed a lot in my opinion. I can recommend everyone to enjoy all the small things in life. These things are there every day, if you are willing to see them. Even if Karma does not exist en the bigger things do not come on your path because of it, at least you have enriched your life by enjoying something everyday.

Regards from the sunny bush,
Miriam
