Wounded cheetah

Wednesday morning Corné drove with two colleague property brokers just outside the reserve when they saw a wounded cheetah on the side of the road. Corné called the game-warden of our section of Balule, who send someone over to watch the cheetah until the vet arrived to dart the animal. Corné and his colleagues stayed to watch of course. We suspect that this is the mother of two young cheetahs that were caught ten days ago because their mother had abandoned them. I was lucky enough
to see those cheetahs twice, while they were waiting at the fence for their mother who had left the reserve. Since their mother didn’t come back the second time and the young were in a bad shape they were caught and brought to the Cheetah Project, where they will be looked after until they are old enough to take care of themselves. Unfortunately they didn’t succeed in catching the wounded cheetah. The warden wants to put food and water out for her and hopes to catch her when she comes for that. If it is the mother of the two young cheetahs, they will try to reunite them with her, but it is not sure that she will accept the young again. Hopefully she is found quickly and treated so she can be released soon again.

Regards from the bush
Miriam
