Lions, the king of beasts

For many people, seeing a lion is the highlight of their safari. Especially the male, with its impressive manes, looks majestic. Although you always need a little luck to see the big cats, the lions are seen regularly here in Balule on the game drive. On our lodge we regularly hear them roar. When they are very close Corné takes the guests in our Landrover to look for them. At several occasions we found them and had them right next to the car, like you can see on this movie. From the lodge we have
also seen the lions several times already. Once the ions killed a kudu close to the sign “Amukela” at our entrance and not so long ago a lion and lioness stood at our waterhole at dusk. The highlight was in August 2010, when the lions killed an old buffalo bull in the dry riverbed next to our terrace. Two days long, 16 lions fed on the carcass and drank at our waterhole. We had several guests in those days that had a great experience! Once we stumbled upon lions while walking. Not even five minutes walk from our lodge we suddenly heard growling and at a distance of about 30 metres a lioness jumped up and ran away. We slowly retreated and came back in our Landrover (with our guests) to have a look. We found two lionesses and two young males in the bushes a little further down the path. This week we have heard the lions roar almost every day, sometimes close by and sometimes a little further away. Yesterday morning CornĂ© saw two young male lions on the Marula Road, not even two kilometres from our lodge.
Regards from the bush
