A monitor in my bathroom

A while back we woke up very early. Our youngest son woke up crying at half past four and I just had him back to sleep when I heard something on the attic. At first I thought of a mouse, but the sound was too heavy for that. My husband, Corné, heard it too and went to investigate. Armed with a flashlight he went upstairs. Soon he was back again and told me that it was a monitor, but that it went behind some boxes to hide.
The whole morning
we were too busy with our work on the lodge to go after the monitor and secretly we were hoping that he would just leave.  But when Corné wanted to go to the toilet that afternoon, the monitor was behind it.  We took our snake stick (a long stick with on one side beak that you can close) and the cooler box and went in to the bathroom but the monitor was gone again. Carefully we looked under the cupboard and behind the laundry basket. There was the monitor, all the way in the corner. Since he was now in a difficult spot to grab him we decided to call our neighbour, Steve. He is a guide and has lots of experience with catching all sorts of animals. In ten minutes he arrived and when Corné pulled away the laundry basket he quickly grabbed the monitor behind his head. Of course we took a good look at the monitor and took pictures of it before Steve took it with him to release it somewhere in the bush again.

Regards from the bush
Miriam
